Making the plan yours

Every menopause journey is different, so your plan is personalised around your symptoms, health history and goals. We will talk through the pros and cons of each option in plain English, agree the first small steps, and set a simple way to track progress. Treatment can include body-identical HRT or non-hormonal choices, plus practical support for sleep, mood, movement and pelvic health. Reviews are built in so we can fine-tune doses, rotate formats if needed, and keep the plan realistic for busy days as well as good days.

What to expect on the day

We’ll start with what’s been changing, then look at patterns and priorities. If blood tests are needed, we can arrange them. Together we’ll agree first steps and how we’ll measure progress. You’ll have time to ask questions and decide what feels right for you.

Preparing for your appointment

Bring a list of medicines and supplements, any recent test results, and a simple 2 to 4 week symptom or period diary if you have one. Think about your top three goals (for example better sleep, fewer flushes, or more energy). If you use a period tracker, the dates help.

After your appointment

We’ll check in to see what’s improved and whether we should adjust the plan. Reviews are typically at 6 to 12 weeks after starting or changing treatment, then every 6 to 12 months when stable. You’ll get clear advice on monitoring, mammography and bone health, plus practical steps for sleep, mood, movement and nutrition.

Menopause Clinic – FAQ

If your question isn’t answered below, please contact us directly. We’ll be happy to advise the safest next step.
If you are in the UK and have urgent or emergency symptoms use NHS 111 or call 999.

Do I need blood tests to diagnose peri-menopause?

Often no. For most adults over 45, the diagnosis is clinical based on symptoms and cycle changes. Tests can help in earlier ages or where the picture is unclear.

Body-identical HRT uses hormones with the same structure as those made in the body. For most healthy adults the benefits for symptoms, bone and urogenital health outweigh risks. We’ll discuss personal risks and the lowest effective dose for you.

Yes, many people start HRT in peri-menopause. Contraception is still needed until you are 12 months period-free if over 50, or 24 months if under 50.

Usually no, unless you have residual endometrium (for example after sub-total hysterectomy) or specific conditions. We’ll confirm what’s right for you.

I can’t or don’t want HRT. Are there other options?

Yes. We can offer non-hormonal medicines for hot flushes, targeted vaginal treatments, and practical strategies for sleep, mood, movement and pelvic health.

Some symptoms improve within 2 to 6 weeks, others take longer. We usually review at 6 to 12 weeks to adjust dose or route and check you’re meeting your goals.

Risk depends on age, health, dose and type of HRT. Transdermal oestrogen (patch, gel or spray) has a lower clot risk than tablets. We’ll go through your personal risk profile and the numbers in plain English.

Yes. Local vaginal oestrogen is effective and safe for most people and can be used alongside systemic HRT or on its own.
