Choosing elderly care at Idos will mean you will receive expert care from our consultant geriatrician Dr Ahmed Jafaar. With over 12 years of experience as a consultant, Dr Jafaar has a speciality interest in falls and syncope.
Our holistic assessments address common issues such as falls, memory problems, and complex health conditions. We offer 24-hour blood pressure monitoring, ECG, and comprehensive geriatric assessment, all designed to support independence, safety, and quality of life for older adults.
Looking for long-term, ongoing care with guaranteed support? We now offer an older adult health
plan, which will allow you to spread the cost of care through monthly payments. Click here for more information.
We take time to understand the whole picture: day-to-day function, mobility and balance, memory and thinking, mood, sleep, continence, nutrition, bone health, long-term conditions and how medicines interact. Your clinician may arrange targeted tests such as ECG or 24-hour blood pressure monitoring, and we can coordinate hearing, vision or falls assessments if needed. You will receive a clear plan covering practical changes at home, safe activity and strength work, medication review, support for carers, and onward referrals when specialist input will help.
Blood pressure fluctuations over the 24 hour day can cause dizziness, faints and falls. At Idos we can offer one of the only 24 hour blood pressure monitoring services in the North East. This will be reviewed and reported by an experienced Doctor specialising in falls and faints.
Wear comfortable clothing and bring a list of your medicines and supplements, including doses and any recent changes. If you have clinic letters, scan or test results, please bring copies. It helps to note recent symptoms such as dizziness, blackouts, falls, memory slips or sleep changes, and any triggers you have noticed. If a family member or carer can attend, they are welcome. Please bring glasses, hearing aids and mobility aids you use day to day.
You will leave with a clear plan in plain English. This may include simple changes to routines, a medication review, targeted tests or referrals, and practical steps to reduce falls risk and support independence. Where 24-hour blood pressure monitoring or ECG is arranged, we will explain how and when results will be reviewed. Follow-ups are booked to check progress and adjust the plan so it stays realistic for everyday life. If new concerns arise, you will know how to contact us and when to seek urgent help.
