Psychotherapy

Space to explore what’s going on beneath the surface and make lasting changes with a qualified therapist.

Time to talk, think and feel

Psychotherapy sessions explore emotional challenges, trauma, relationships, and identity. Practitioners use psychosynthesis or Jungian methods, depending on your needs and preferences.

Psychotherapy at IDOS gives you an unhurried space to understand patterns, emotions and experiences that may be affecting your life. Working with an experienced therapist, you’ll explore what’s difficult, develop healthier ways to cope and build towards the changes you want.

If you’re unsure which approach will suit you best, we’ll guide you, whether that’s longer‑term psychotherapy or a more structured short‑term option.

We also offer Psychosexual Counselling:

How we work

Your therapist will agree goals with you and pace sessions to match your needs. We draw on integrative approaches (for example psychosynthesis and related modalities) and can coordinate with our GP, sleep and complementary therapy teams when helpful. You’ll have a clear sense of what therapy is focusing on and how progress will be reviewed together.

What psychotherapy can do for you

Psychotherapy offers protected time to explore patterns that keep you stuck. Patterns such as difficult emotions, repeating relationship themes, low self-esteem, grief, trauma, burnout or feeling “numb.” Together we make sense of what is happening now and why, then agree small steps you can try between sessions. Your therapist will check in regularly on progress, adapt the approach to suit you, and coordinate with your IDOS GP or other services (for example sleep, medication review or complementary therapies) when that would help. You will leave with a clear plan for follow-up so you know what happens next.

Jungian psychotherapy

Jungian psychotherapy focuses on the deeper layers of the mind to help you understand recurring patterns and move toward a more balanced sense of self. In sessions you might explore dreams, images, slips of the tongue and strong reactions as clues from the unconscious; look at “shadow” parts you tend to push away; and notice themes (archetypes) that show up in relationships, work or life transitions. Your therapist may invite gentle creative methods such as imagery, writing or active imagination alongside conversation. The aim is to help you integrate different parts of yourself so everyday choices feel clearer, symptoms ease and life has more meaning.

What is psychotherapy and who is it for?

A talking therapy that helps you understand feelings, thoughts and behaviours, and make lasting change. It is suitable for anxiety, low mood, trauma, relationship difficulties, work stress, grief, long-standing patterns and when brief self-help has not been enough.

Counselling tends to focus on current problems and support; CBT is structured skills-based work. Psychotherapy explores underlying patterns and experiences as well as present-day coping. At IDOS we match the approach to your goals and can blend methods.

We discuss what brings you here, take a careful history at a pace that feels safe, and agree aims for therapy. You will have time to ask questions. We also confirm how often to meet and how progress will be reviewed.

How many sessions will I need and how long are they?

Some people benefit from a focused block of 6–12 sessions; others choose longer-term work. Appointments are typically 50–60 minutes. We review regularly and adjust the plan together.

Sessions are confidential. With your consent we may share a brief summary with your GP to support joined-up care. If there is a serious risk of harm, we will explain what must be shared and why.

We might suggest short reflections, a brief journal, simple skills for emotion regulation, or specific conversations.. Small, consistent practice helps changes stick.
