Private Blood Tests Newcastle

Quick, careful and clearly explained

At IDOS, blood tests are taken by experienced clinicians in a calm setting. We confirm what’s being tested, answer questions and make the process as comfortable as possible. When results are back, we explain what they mean in plain English and agree any next steps with you.

Common requests include general health screens, thyroid and hormone profiles, cholesterol and diabetes checks, vitamin levels, infection markers and medication monitoring. If additional tests will help, we’ll discuss options before proceeding.

Some clients wish to review their own blood tests or pass them onto a clinician or specialist outside Idos. We do offer a phlebotomy service where you receive the results immediately. Please speak to reception if you have specific questions.

The phlebotomy price is a standard booking fee and doesn’t include the actual blood test prices, so please inform reception after booking an appointment which bloods you require.

What to expect on the day

You’ll have a brief check‑in. A small sample of blood is taken from a vein in your arm using standard sterile technique; most people feel only a quick scratch. We apply a dressing and you can usually leave within minutes. We’ll tell you when to expect results and how you’ll receive them. This will be by a secure message, phone or at a follow‑up appointment.

Preparing for your Blood Tests / Phlebotomy

Some blood tests require fasting (usually water only for 8–12 hours) or timed samples; we’ll make this clear when you book. Drink water as normal so you’re well‑hydrated, wear loose sleeves, and eat normally unless fasting has been advised. Bring a list of medicines and supplements as some can affect results.

Blood Tests / Phlebotomy – FAQ

If your question isn’t answered below, please contact us directly. We’ll be happy to advise the safest next step.
If you are in the UK and have urgent or emergency symptoms use NHS 111 or call 999.

Do I need to fast before my blood test?

Only some tests need fasting (commonly cholesterol or certain glucose tests). If fasting is required, we’ll tell you exactly how long to avoid food and drink, water is fine. If you’re unsure, ask us before your appointment.

Many routine tests return within 2–3 working days; specialised tests can take longer. We’ll share results by secure message, phone or at a follow‑up and explain what they mean for you.

We offer a wide range including full blood count, kidney and liver function, thyroid tests, HbA1c and glucose, lipid profile (cholesterol), vitamins (B12, D, folate), iron studies, hormone profiles, infection markers (CRP/ESR), and medicine monitoring. If you need something specific, just ask.

I’m anxious about needles, can you help?

Yes. Tell us in advance and on arrival. We’ll use proven comfort techniques (hydration, positioning, breathing/relaxation, smaller needles where suitable) and take it at your pace. Most people find the experience much easier than expected.

Minor bruising, a small lump or light‑headedness can occur and usually settle quickly. Serious complications are very rare. If you take blood thinners or have a bleeding disorder, let us know so we can take extra care.

Usually yes. Bring a list of everything you take. Certain medicines and supplements can affect results or need monitoring at a specific time of day; we’ll advise you if anything should be delayed until after the sample.

Not sure which tests you need?

Tell us your goals, we’ll recommend an appropriate panel.
