Aromatherapy

Gentle, hands-on treatment that blends therapeutic massage with carefully selected essential oils. Sessions at IDOS are tailored to how you feel and what you want from your time on the couch.

Relax, rebalance and reset

Sayuri Naruse provides deeply relaxing, evidence-based aromatherapy treatments with hand-blended essential oils and personalised massage. Sessions support stress, muscular tension, and grief. Often appointments are followed by tea with home grown apple mint from her garden!

Aromatherapy at IDOS uses light to medium pressure with essential oils chosen for your goals, such as easing muscle tension, calming the mind, or supporting better sleep. Aromatherapy combines gentle massage with diluted essential oils chosen for you. Breathing in a calming scent can help settle the nervous system while slow, even touch releases everyday tension. We keep oils skin-friendly and only use them if they are suitable for you. If you prefer, we can work oil-free or with a neutral carrier. Your practitioner will ask about preferences and any sensitivities, then create a soothing session that helps you switch off and feel restored. Where helpful, we can coordinate with your IDOS GP or therapy team so care stays joined up and safe.

Who it is for: People who want a gentle way to unwind, reduce everyday tension, improve sleep quality or support recovery from a busy period of life. Suitable for beginners.

How sessions run

Appointments are usually on a treatment couch with towels for comfort and privacy. We use flowing massage strokes with diluted essential oils and adjust pressure to your comfort. Scents are introduced slowly so you can choose what feels right on the day. Typical structure:

  • First session: brief history, scent and pressure preferences, full or part body routine to settle tension.
  • Follow ups: focus on key areas like neck, shoulders, back or legs, and adapt oils based on your goals, for example more calming in the evening or uplifting in the day.
  • At home support: simple breath and stretch routines, and advice on good sleep habits to maintain the benefits.

What to bring

Wear comfortable clothing and arrive well hydrated. Avoid heavy meals or alcohol before your session. Tell us about any allergies, asthma, skin conditions, pregnancy, or medical diagnoses so we can choose suitable oils or offer an oil free treatment if preferred. Remove jewellery near the treatment areas.

“I visited Idos last week. It was the first time I have been there and was very surprised at how warming the atmosphere was. Sayuri was the lady that treated me. She was very welcoming , understanding and had a great wealth of knowledge. I would definitely promote her and the Idos centre for anyone who needs the wide range of treatments they provide.”

Aromatherapy – FAQ

If your question isn’t answered below, please contact us directly. We’ll be happy to advise the safest next step.
If you are in the UK and have urgent or emergency symptoms use NHS 111 or call 999.

What is aromatherapy and how does it work in a session?

It combines gentle massage with diluted essential oils selected for your goals. Touch helps ease muscle tension while scent can support relaxation, mood and sleep.

Yes, with the right precautions. Tell us about allergies or sensitivities and we will patch test or choose neutral carrier oils. We avoid known irritants and keep concentrations low.

Only to your comfort level. You will be covered with towels and only the area being worked on is uncovered. If you would like a clothed treatment, ask for an oil free approach and we will adapt.

Can aromatherapy help with stress or sleep?

Many people find that the combination of gentle massage and calming scents helps them unwind and sleep more easily. It supports wellbeing and is not a substitute for medical care.

We will screen for conditions where certain oils are not advised, for example some skin conditions, severe asthma triggers, or pregnancy in the first trimester. If there is any doubt, we will suggest a GP review first.

Some prefer a single reset, others benefit from a short series. Appointments are typically 45 to 60 minutes. We will agree a plan that fits your goals and schedule.

Not sure if aromatherapy is right for you?

Tell us your goals and any health concerns. We will advise whether aromatherapy, therapeutic massage or another complementary therapy is the best first step.
