Travel Clinic Newcastle
Safe journeys start with smart prep.
Going abroad? IDOS offers tailored pre-travel health consultations with our GP, Dr Riaan Swanepoel. You’ll get destination-specific advice, vaccine recommendations, and a personal risk assessment, in person or by phone, with clear resources to take away.
Who it is for: Holidaymakers, business travellers, students, volunteers, those visiting friends and relatives, and anyone with medical conditions who needs a safe, personalised plan before flying.
Note: IDOS is not a yellow fever vaccination centre. We’ll advise the nearest approved centre if you need this vaccine.
Your needs set the agenda. Tell us what prompted the visit, any recent symptoms or exposures, and what you want to leave knowing. We will tailor testing to timing since exposure, the type of contact, and your health history. If you prefer minimal conversation, we can keep it simple; if you want education and counselling, we can provide that too.
A 30–45 minute appointment focused on your trip. We’ll map your stops, transport, activities and time at altitude; check prior immunisations; discuss conditions, medications and pregnancy considerations; then agree the safest schedule for jabs, tablets and precautions. You’ll leave with written guidance and trusted links for your destination.
Bring your itinerary (countries, dates, urban/rural stays), a list of previous vaccines, your medication list and allergies. If you have a health condition, bring relevant clinic letters. Try to book 4–8 weeks before departure so there’s time to complete vaccine courses, we can still help if you’re travelling sooner.
We’ll schedule any remaining doses, arrange fit-to-travel letters if needed, and provide post-travel advice (for example, what to do if you become unwell after a malaria-risk trip). You’ll also receive printable or downloadable country sheets and practical checklists for the journey.
