Mental Health Review

A focused review can be with a psychiatrist, an experienced GP or therapist to understand what’s happening now and agree next steps that feel doable.

Support that meets you where you are

Comprehensive psychiatric assessments are available with Dr Vishaal Goel for clients seeking a mental health diagnosis, second opinion, or review of medication. We’ll look at your history, any previous diagnoses or treatments and how life is being affected. Together we’ll agree a clear plan, this might include self‑management strategies, talking therapy options, medication review or a referral where appropriate.

If you feel this is the kind of mental health review you need, then contact reception for next steps. Dr Goel often prefers to screen his appointments prior to bookings.

Our GPs can also provide mental health support and signpost to the appropriate specialist or counsellor. This appointment is bookable on line here. Sometimes, we prefer to provide mental health support indirectly through the complementary arm of Idos, for example breath work for anxiety through yoga or massage.

If you’re already in therapy or taking medication, we can provide a second opinion and help coordinate your care.

What to expect

You’ll have an unhurried consultation, space to ask questions and clear explanations in plain English. We’ll summarise recommendations in writing and suggest a sensible follow‑up interval so you know what happens next.

What a Mental Health Review covers

In this focused appointment we look at what is happening now, what has helped before, and what life looks like day to day. We explore symptoms such as low mood, anxiety, sleep problems, panic, work or study stress, and how long these have been present. If risk is a concern, we talk about this sensitively and agree a clear safety plan. Together we create next steps that feel doable, which may include self-management strategies, talking therapy options, medication review, or referral when useful. You will leave with written recommendations so you know exactly what happens next.

Mental Health Review – FAQ

If your question isn’t answered below, please contact us directly. We’ll be happy to advise the safest next step.
If you are in the UK and have urgent or emergency symptoms use NHS 111 or call 999.

What is a Mental Health Review and who is it for?

This ranges from a GP review to a psychiatrist review and is for all adults. The GP review is often about medication and progress, and may involve a referral to a counsellor or a complementery therapist depending on the situation. A psychiatric review or assesmsent is more complex and it is advisable to check with reception before booking this. A memory assessment is usually part of the edlerly care assessment done by Dr Jaafar, but it is possible to start the process by booking an appointment with one of the GPs.

Book if symptoms are affecting your day to day life or you need a clearer plan. If you are in crisis, feeling unsafe, or worried about immediate risk, this service is not an emergency pathway. Call NHS 111 or in case of emergency 999. Alternatively go to your nearest hospital. You can also contact your local area crisis team for support.

We take a careful history, review any previous help, screen for contributing factors such as sleep, physical health and medication, and discuss goals. You will have time to ask questions. We then agree next steps and how to follow up.

Will medication be prescribed?

Sometimes, if appropriate and after a balanced discussion of benefits, side effects and alternatives. Many people benefit from talking therapies, lifestyle strategies or simple sleep and stress tools. We only recommend medication when it fits your needs and preferences.

With your consent, yes, because joined-up care is safer and more effective. If you prefer not to share, tell us and we will explain any implications and agree what is recorded.

An appointment with the psychiatrist is usually 60minutes. An appointment with a GP is 30min. Bring a list of medicines or supplements, any previous letters or assessments, and a brief note of key symptoms, triggers and goals so we can focus on what matters most.

Not sure which appointment to book?

Tell us a little about what you’re experiencing and we’ll recommend the best first step.
