Exercise Therapy

One‑to‑one, clinically informed movement coaching to rebuild strength, mobility and confidence. Tailored sessions at IDOS that meet you where you are, post‑injury, post‑illness or simply ready to move better.

Movement that works
for your body

Exercise therapy services are led by Nigel Issa, specialising in mobility, strength, rehabilitation, and chronic condition management. Ideal for clients with back pain, injury recovery needs, or those aiming to build healthy habits. Exercise therapy forms part of our bespoke Back Pain Service and can be an add-on for the Weight Loss Programme.

Exercise Therapy blends physiotherapy‑style principles with practical coaching. We start by understanding your symptoms, history and goals, then design a plan you can actually follow, including targeted mobility, strength, balance and pacing strategies. We’ll liaise with your IDOS GP, tests or therapies so everything stays joined‑up and safe.

Who it’s for: People with aches, stiffness or recurrent niggles; those returning after injury or illness; desk‑based workers; beginners who want confidence and guidance.

How sessions run

Your first session includes assessment, goal‑setting and an introductory programme. Follow‑ups progress the plan at a sensible pace and troubleshoot barriers like pain flare‑ups, fatigue or busy schedules. Typical structure:

  • Assessment & foundation: posture, range‑of‑motion and movement screen; gentle activation and mobility work.
  • Build phase: progressive strength for key areas (hips, knees, back, shoulders), balance and core; walking or cardio as appropriate.
  • Return to activities: task‑specific drills (lifting, stairs, gardening, sport) and relapse‑prevention strategies.
  • At‑home support: short routines (10–20 minutes), load‑management tips and simple tracking so you can see progress.

What to bring

Wear comfortable clothing and supportive footwear. Bring any recent scans or reports, and a list of medicines if pain or long‑term conditions are involved. If pain flares easily, arrive a few minutes early to settle; we’ll adapt everything to your day.

Exercise Therapy – FAQ

If your question isn’t answered below, please contact us directly. We’ll be happy to advise the safest next step.
If you are in the UK and have urgent or emergency symptoms use NHS 111 or call 999.

What is exercise therapy and how is it different from a gym session?

It’s one‑to‑one movement coaching led by a clinician‑trained practitioner. We assess your starting point, tailor exercises to your symptoms and goals, and progress safely, coordinating with your GP or other clinicians when helpful.

Yes. We adapt movements, adjust load and use pacing to build capacity without flare‑ups. Many people with back, knee, shoulder or hip issues, osteoarthritis or long‑term conditions find exercise therapy improves function and confidence.

Most people notice benefit within 3–4 sessions.  Initial appointment is 90 minutes and follow up appointments are typically 45–60 minutes. Frequency starts weekly or fortnightly and tapers as you gain independence.

Will I get a home plan?

Yes. You’ll leave each appointment with a short, realistic routine (10–20 minutes) and simple guidance on sets, reps and how to progress between sessions.

We screen for red‑flags and review any medical history first. If you’re post‑operative or recovering from illness, we’ll coordinate with your clinician and follow any restrictions, then rebuild gradually.

Better mobility and strength, easier day‑to‑day tasks, improved posture and confidence. Ultimately, we’ll track what matters to you, e.g., walking time, stairs, lifting, pain levels or return to a sport or hobby.

Not sure where to start?

Tell us your symptoms and goals. We’ll advise whether Exercise Therapy, a GP review or another service is the safest first step.
