In partnership with local groups, IDOS runs friendly Byker Community Health Education sessions to support health awareness and access to care. Topics include nutrition, yoga, mindfulness, sleep, mental health, medical screening, and red flags that need urgent help. Sessions are led by clinicians and wellbeing practitioners with time for questions and signposting.

We co-design our programme with local partners so it feels relevant, practical and welcoming. Sessions are short, jargon-free and focused on what you can do today. We cover how to spot red-flag symptoms, when to use your GP, 111, urgent care or 999, and how to navigate medical screening

What the local sessions involve

  • Nutrition made doable – affordable swaps, understanding food labels, small changes that stick.
  • Yoga & mindful movement – gentle options for all bodies; how 10 minutes a day helps pain and mood.
  • Mindfulness for busy lives – 3–5 minute practices for calm, sleep and focus.
  • Sleep skills – shift-work tips, bedtime routines, caffeine and screens.
  • Mental health basics – anxiety/low mood self-care, when to seek help, local services.
  • Medical screening explained – breast, cervical and bowel screening: who, when and how to book.
  • Primary-care red flags – symptoms you shouldn’t ignore and what to do next.
  • Signposting clinic – brief 1:1 advice after group sessions for personalised next steps.
