Dr Riaan Swanepoel
Dr Swanepoel is one of our key practitioners and helps to coordinate Idos. He will often be the first port of call for clients with conventional health care needs or looking for healthcare advocacy.
With over 20 years of experience in the NHS, working in paediatrics, as a GP, and most recently in frailty services, Dr Swanepoel has experience with all age groups and a wide breadth of health conditions.
Over the last 12 years, Dr Swanepoel has been the local Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) lead GP for both child and adult safeguarding. In this role, he works with specialist nurses and broader teams supporting GPs to understand systems for keeping vulnerable adults and children safe.
Safeguarding, paediatrics and frailty services place a strong emphasis on working in a multi-disciplinary team to create better outcomes for vulnerable groups in society. Dr Swanepoel hopes to bring some of these approaches to Idos recognising that all people with health issues feel some vulnerability and need for support.
Dr Swanepoel can help you with new and existing non-emergency medical issues and is happy to collaborate and communicate with other practitioners at your request. He sees health advocacy as the way forward in helping people take control of their lives and wellbeing.
Having trained and qualified in South Africa he came over to the UK in 1995, has three children and is married to a Brit. He loves Africa, maintaining strong links with his native country and has a passion for African nature conservation.
